ROY HASLAM (1950-2022)
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our Treasurer Roy Haslam after a long and courageous battle with illness. Roy was a very keen sportsman and turned to golf over 25 years ago having finished playing competitive football and cricket.
Roy joined our Society in 1995 and also became a member at Brookdale G.C. and more recently Denton G.C. Roy was Captain of the Society in 1999 and following this took up the role as our Treasurer which he continued to do until his death. During this time Roy made an enormous contribution to the Society for which we shall all be forever grateful. His organisational skills have driven the long term development of the Society immensely.
A round of golf with Roy was always competitive and enjoyable and he usually enjoyed a few drinks afterwards, not to mention the odd heated discussion about golf rules and handicaps. Roy will be sorely missed by all our members.
All our thoughts are with Roy’s family at this time and the details of his funeral are as follows:
1st December 2022 10-30am – Dukinfield Crematorium followed by a celebration of his life at Denton Golf Club from 11-00am onwards.
Roy was very proud to wear the Yellow shirt of the Society both home and abroad and Roy’s family would be most appreciative if members attending Roy’s funeral will please wear their yellow shirt.
Any donations in memory of Roy should be made to Willow Wood Hospice where Roy spent his final days.
