Godley Hall Golf Society was established in 1986 by a keen group of likeminded golfers who were regular patrons of Godley Hall Inn. The Society was created to encourage golfers of all abilities to participate in regular social golf and develop lasting friendships, whilst enjoying some of the many courses throughout the North West of England and further afield.
The first Captain of the Society was Albert Dale and other founder members included Ray Renshaw, Brian Woosey, Derek Wilson, Colin Barker, Mike Woodruff, George Dodd, Mike Trbojevic, David Wilson and landlord at the time Barry Steed.
In its inaugural season the Society held a “Spring Trip” to Scotland and the annual trip to popular golfing destinations throughout Europe has remained an important part of the Society calendar ever since, alongside the seven monthly events held between Spring and Autumn each year, the annual Knockout competition, Captain’s v Vice Captain’s challenge match and the Winter “Turkey Trot”. The Society is also open to arranging matches with other local golf societies.
